Drawstring Pouch Sewing Class

In this skill-building class, you will learn how to machine sew an origami-style drawstring pouch on your sewing machine (or reserve one at the shop if needed). The following will be taught in this class

  • What a Fat Quarter is by using a yard piece of fabric to explain.
  • How to use ruler and rotary cutter
  • How to use fabric to make ¼” drawstring cords
  • How to sew 2 pieces of fabric together insides out and turn to make finished 2 sided square.
  • Use machine to sew forward, reverse, and topstitching.
  • Fabric folding to create the bag with interesting inside small pockets.
  • Sew ¼” seams using various tools. You can choose between several of these options: Lori Holt's seam guide, Diagonal Seam tape, and the Sew Straight Guide. You are not expected to know what any of those are, so please don't worry!
  • How to pin fabric.

Instructor: Jane Shull
Instructor Bio: Jane is a life-long learner and teacher. Jane and I met many years ago when we volunteered at the same summer camp, as I taught weaving and Jane taught sewing to interested kiddos. We are having a blast working together at the shop to bring more sewing knowledge to the local community. Jane uses many of the education techniques to teach sewing that she used when she was a school teacher. Most of all, she makes learning FUN!
