Instructor Bio: I began quilting in the 90's when I decided that I wanted to make a quilt the Amish way completely by hand. I took a class from Donna Hurley at the extension office, which got my feet wet, so to speak. It was in this era that Quilters Gathering was in business on Derry St in Harrisburg. I took a beginner quilting class with Karen Kay Buckley and I was hooked. At the time, she taught a series of quilt building classes along with applique (both hand and machine), and quilt design. I soon became a groupie of hers and have taken so many classes that we became great friends. Applique rapidly became my newest passion, both hand and machine. I spent a year in her Baltimore Album class in 2000 followed by her Friends and Flowers class. Both of which to this day aren't completely done but maybe some day. I cherish the class time I had with her, as she is now retired. She was a wonderful teacher and caused my love of the craft to grow exponentially. I found I love all aspects of quilt making except the quilting. I have since had the privilege of attending some of the big quilt shows in Chicago, Cincinnati and Grand Rapids, taking full loads of classes by so many big names in the industry. Fast forward to today where my passion is still quilt piecing but I absolutely fell in love with wool applique and have had the honor of taking a class from the queen of wool herself, Lisa Bongean from Primitive Gatherings. My wool stash, like my fabric stash, is huge as is my Valdani stash. Wool work and embroidery help end each of my days. I currently am teaching it at Humble Stitch and as I tell my students, my favorite part is tracing and cutting out the pieces. ( I must have gotten an A in grade school art class). I also do many of the quilt and wool samples for the shop and may expand my class subjects in the future.
